We are excited to feature Schneider Custom Builders out of Norfolk, VA, as our Spotlight Builder for November. I was able to catch up recently with Jim Schneider, the owner of Schneider Custom Builders, and spend some time discussing their operations, and how BuilderTREND fit into it.

Jim : 28 years

BuilderTREND: How many employees do you have?

Jim : 4

BuilderTREND: What type of builder would you classify yourself as (Custom Builder, Spec Builder, Remodel Firm, Commercial, etc.)?

Jim : Custom Builder

BuilderTREND: How do you market and promote your company?

Jim : Mostly word of mouth… we've recently opened a showroom we call The Idea Center and that has generated some nice traffic. We're currently updating our website to help drive more traffic as well.

BuilderTREND: Do you use BuilderTREND at all when visiting with a prospective customer?

Jim : Yes, I do. Many of our clients are from out of town, so BuilderTREND is perfect for communicating from a distance. It gives prospective clients a real comfort level to know that as long as they have an internet connection, their project is at their fingertips.

BuilderTREND: How did you find out about BuilderTREND?

Jim : I saw your booth at the International Builder Show and was looking for this type of option.

BuilderTREND: What was the biggest factor you considered in making the investment to start using BuilderTREND?

Jim : The web based platform is what sold me on working with you. Knowing the flexibility of a system that can be upgraded and modified was key in my decision.

BuilderTREND: Do your customers participate in BuilderTREND?

Jim : Yes… they love looking at and sharing the photos.

BuilderTREND: Have you found value in allowing subs & vendors to participate in BuilderTREND?

Jim : Absolutely… It significantly reduces our document distribution. It took a while to train our vendors to use the system, but they use it for scheduling and documents routinely. They know that all info is real time so the latest version on BuilderTREND is their guide.

BuilderTREND: How much time, or money, have you saved by adopting BuilderTREND in your business?

Jim : It's hard to say exactly, but it's definitely significant. It makes a small company like mine more scalable… allowing us to do more projects.

BuilderTREND: Thanks for taking the time to talk to us Jim, before we finish up, anything else you would like to add?

Jim : I think BuilderTREND has changed the way we do business. It's been a strong means of differentiation for us. In today's business atmosphere, it's not just what you do, it's how you do it. As a result, BuilderTREND gives us a leg up in a really competitive economic climate.
